Alright, there are a few stories and ideas pre-magically Insane. This is where I will post stuff about those stories and possibly why they didn't work.

Boopaloopia

Ah! The creation of our beloved Katrina! Although all pieces of Boopaloopia stories are gone, I still remmeber it well. One of my friends in sixth grade (Zach) started making a story...a really funny story. He let me read a piece of it and before I knew it me and my other friend (Tricia) were helping him write it.

Boopaloopia was a different world. One where magic ruled and the three main characters (including Katrina)were friends from the beginning of their lives. There were many jokes, many of which sprug up from Zach's bad spelling (For example, Zach meant to say that the characters got around on a flying "coach" but instead said "couch"). The story was a blast to make and even inspired us to create a full script for a movie (including rehersing)

Zach made a character that was like him. That character's name was Shrew (Zach didn't know it was a rodent when he picked out the name). At first, this character was just silly, but eventually he stopped writing with Tricia and I, and Tricia (being the extremly bossy brat she was) changed his charcter into a stupid, hyper boy who often said phrases that made him sound mentally retarted. This is where the idea of Tait sprang up from.

Before he stopped writing with us though, Tricia and I added to his story by creating characters based upon ourselves. Viola! Katrina was born, along with Dia (Tricia's character).

Dia started out like Shrew did, but eventually Tricia made her character as mentally disabled as his, and mine more cold and bossy. Dia was half dwarf (and when tricia and I planned on making a movie we decided she would stand on her knees because she had the legs of a dwarf and the torso of a human). Dia sprang up the idea for the original Melody.

And that brings us to Katrina. From the start, Katrina was a bitter, cold, and extremly intelligent girl. In the boopaloopia stories, however, she was like that because she had to hang out with two morons. In these stories, Katrina was part cat (with black ears and a tail) due to an accident with a backfiring trick wand. Although doctors offered to change her back to normal, Katrina thought her new powers would be useful. They were, but the side effects resulted in some very humourous events. Katrina often changed into a cat completly, or acted like a cat in her human form when she was tempted by a ball, catnip, ect. There was one time when the three of us were RPGing (we role played our characters when we were bored...don't laugh) Katrina jumped off of the flying couch because she wanted to see if she would land on her feet.

Overall, these stories were very funny, very cute and were a blast to make. Sadly Tricia started to bug Zach and I too much, so we stopped. Even if we didn't, however, there wasn't much of a plotline. I doubt we could have made a story everyone liked.

Veneficus Tears

I created Veneficus Tears somewhere around 2004 and 2005, but this time I did it by myself. I actually have some of the stories saved on my computer today, but they never had the plotline I was looking for.

Veneficus Tears was closer to Boopaloopia than Magically Insane. It took place on another planet (just like Magically Insane and Boopaloopia) and the characters Knew each other from the beginning (unlike in Magically Insane). The characters were very close to the ones in Booplaoopia, but I added a new one to balance out the stupid to intelligent ratio. Plus I wanted someone that Katrina would date in the future ;) (not that she does in Magically Insane, but she did in Veneficus tears). Katrina actually narrates all of the Veneficus stories though.

Tait and Melody were VERY close to Shrew and Dia, only this time, Melody was part fairy and Tait was a leprachaun. They were still both extremely hyper and dumb...and they still drove Katrina nuts.

Katrina bacically stayed the same. Only a couple things changed. First, as she got older, she could actually change into a cat at will. And second, she got changed into part cat by an enemy, not a trick wand.

And then there is Marten. I wanted someone that could calm Katrina down on her rants and someone she trusted with her life (two things that happen later on in Magically Insane). He was supposed to be level headed, kind, and protective. Oh yeah...and so lovable that Katrina (who was still a very anti-social, don't-touch-me-or-get-your-limbs-torn-off kind of girl) would fall for him. The main difference between Venificus Marten and Magically Insane Marten was that Marten could change into any animal at will, something that only women do in Magically Insane.

The reason why I stopped this story was that it didn't have the deep plotline I wanted (not that Magically Insane does, but Veneficus had less of a plotline). It wasn't as funny as Boopaloopia, but it kind of ran all over the place. The first story was very cliché (got captured by villian, beat villian up) and the only part I enjoyed was when Katrina talked about how the four met. Another one was about the characters going to earth (which was funny AND had a fairly decent plotline, but it was too rambly and I never finished it). Eventually I gave up on it and started Magically Insane, which I am continuing to this day!

What They are Now...

I completly changed Melody and Tait, but left Katrina and Marten alone for the most part. Below are some of the major changes I made.

Melody: I dropped the whole stupidity thing and decided to just make her bubbly and girly. She is still part fairy, but she doesn't drive Katrina crazy.

Tait: Dropped the leperchaun. I really wanted to have some insanity elements, but I didn't want a character that was as crazy and childish as the old Tait, Melody, Dia and Shrew, 24/7. Instead, I gave him a disease that makes him insane half of the time. He is also very protective of Melody, something he could not be in the past stories because he was too unaware of his surroundings.

Katrina: I kept her personality the same. She is still as bitter and sarcastic as the day I came up with her. I changed the situations she was in, however. There were no references to evil family members in Veneficus Tears OR Boopaloopia, and she used to be an only child. Also, If you read the first Magically Insane, you know that Katrina didn't know she was a witch until the age of 15.

Marten: Pretty much the same. He is slightly more protective in Magically Insane, and he is a little less calm. His skills changed a lot (he can't change into animals in Insane but he can enter dreams). Marten was changed the least ammount of any character.

Alternate Endings: The first Magically Insane went through a lot of endings. Overall there were three. In the first one, Katrina's grandfather was in her mind, controling her. At the very end of the story she perfomed a "complicated" spell to go into her mind and attack her grandfather, who was making Katrina insane so she would commit suicide which would, in turn, set him free. This ending was too bizare and when it came down to it the story just didn't make sense. The second ending was closer to the final. Instead of Katrina attacking her grandfather herself, she called the zoo animals to attack him. It did make more sense than the first ending, but it didn't seem quite right. After a little tweaking I got the final ending.

Misc. Scenes: There were lots of little bits and pieces that I deleted. One chapter that was replaced was the dream sequence where Katrina gets the locket. Originally, Marten and her jumped off of a cliff and into a quarry. They flew around each other for awhile but nothing really happened untl the end of the dream, when Marten gave her the locket. This was actually one of the first chapters I wrote. I didn't really have the plotline down though, and my first intent when I wrote the sequence was that it would go into a romantic story. So Marten (who didn't have that name at the time) kissed Katrina before giving her the locket. Once I figured out that the story was going to be focusing on Katrina and her magic, rather than some odd relationship, I decided to cut the kissing part out. This dream stayed in the story until the second ending was created, at which time I replaced it with the horse sequence. Another little bit I cut out was a couple small italiced paragraphs that were flashback to a 5-year-old Katrina. In these flashbacks the girl was singing spells, one was even repeated in the first ending. After I changed the first ending though, it really didn't make sense.

I changed a lot of stuff, but the personalities of Katrina and Marten basically stayed untouched along with their ability to perform magic. Oh...and the fact that Katrina was based off of me never changed either.

Wait...Katrina was Based Off of You?

Yes she is. Well, more like Tricia's interpretation of me. Anyone who sees me in school, outside of school, when I am with my parents, when I am PMSy and when I am not, can tell you I have many faces. Katrina is like my bitter, sarcastic and tramatised side. She is very dark, rarely hyper like I can be. She is a very strong and intelligent person though (which is what my parents and teachers generally tell me I am). Katrina is based on part of me. She has little outbursts like I occationally do, little pet peeves that I have, and is put in situations I sometimes go through. The similarity is supposed to be subtle...but then again, I meant for a lot of things when I first wrote them ;)
